My first interest was in descriptive epidemiology and surveillance – I spent 3 years working at the regional Childhood Cancer Registry in Turin (Italy).
In the last 4 years, since joining the Department of Social Medicine, my main interest has been to underpin preventable determinants of common diseases.
In particular, I am completing a research project on alcohol and prostate cancer, using Mendelian randomization to disentangle possible causal effects.
Working on this has given me the opportunity to research common genetic variation associated with alcohol drinking at the population-level, through candidate gene association studies.
