Peer Review

Peer review in the Department of Social Medicine

The University of Bristol operates a policy or peer observation that should be implemented across all Departments and Faculties
(see http://www.bris.ac.uk/tsu/policy/peer_obs_guide.doc) for more details

The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has decided to undertake peer review from the academic year 2006/2007. (The Dental school has already had a well-established procedure for several years). The Heads of Teaching and the Director of Medical Education established the process and template for the review process.

In the Department of Social Medicine, Dr Matthew Hickman (Head of Teaching) will organise the process and match teaching staff with an appropriate reviewer. All staff will be observed once over a three year period.

Please download and read the instructions for peer review and check the peer review template that can be found on the web page.

The information that is collected will be kept centrally and a copy sent to relevant unit/element organisers.

We believe that this process will help maintain the excellent quality of teaching as well as provide useful materials for teaching portfolios, annual appraisal and submissions for promotion.

If you have any queries please speak to either Susie Potts (administrative support) or Matthew Hickman (Head of Teaching)
